02.12.2010 - Day 2 - Opening Ceremonies

Woke up early, no skate this morning and breakfast isn't till 9am, so I went for a run on the treadmill.
We had a short meeting now that everyone is in and went over OT and game winning shot procedures and everything they went over in the Directorate meeting and the meeting with the coaches.
This day is like Christmas as all the officials bring gifts from their country or associations to share with the others.
We found out at our meeting that we would be going to the opening ceremonies and we had little time between our meeting and when the bus would be there to pick us up so we ran for food. We were also told not to bring bags or anything extra with and if we had a camera to leave the case behind as the security would be tight.
(The whole crew waiting for the bus)
We took the bus there and while we were waiting I met the off-ice officials for the big rink. We got inside and it was pretty cool how the once football field was transformed and covered in white snow like fluff. Some of us hit the food and drinks that were being served in the entry and others of us put together the kits that were on our seats; 2 different flashlights, a white poncho, a drum and a Canadian flag. While we were sitting there I met a speed skating short track official and his wife from St. Louis and the president of the Associated Press in NY.
The ceremony was awesome! Some of the big names in the program were Jacques Rogge, K.D. Lang, Nelly Furtado, Nodar Kumaritashvili, Sarah McLachlan, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Steve Nash, Brian Adams and Donald Sutherland.
